That sent shockwaves through the campus and after that security was taken pretty seriously. Which led to great displeasure when under the guise of preventing crime the TUPD banned the Thursday night drunk buses from coming to campus. Overall though security was decent, not overbearing but enough to deter most serious crimeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764429864871986236.post-91780168099761121762008-07-22T10:08:00.000-04:002008-07-22T10:08:00.000-04:00I agree with you, Helix. Their favorite thing is to mess with someone, grab something, pull a woman's hair, deliberately bump into you, etc.

As they get older and "tougher", they move into "banking" people, i.e., grabbing someone, roughing them up, throwing them on the ground, maybe getting a punch or kick or two in. Then they walk away laughing.

You'll see a fair amount of that stuff on the JHU daily and weekly crime report. But it happens all the time throughout the city with both white and black thugs.

However, when they get older, they're much bigger and can really hurt you; often they graduate to robbery. By the way, did you see another man was beaten and stomped to death in Patterson Park a week or so ago? ---not too far from Zach Sower's beating. Don 't hear much about that case; he didn't have credit cards, probably, for the cretins to use.

On the other hand, he probably just fell off a park bench, and hit his head, or had some pre-existing condition.buzoncrimehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00222344932427990980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764429864871986236.post-36940849031937245772008-07-22T08:29:00.000-04:002008-07-22T08:29:00.000-04:00The JHU security tip is good, but I would not have...The JHU security tip is good, but I would not have used the adjective "older" juvies. Sometimes it is shocking how young trouble-makers can be. People don't believe that until they see it happen.

Anytime a group of rowdy kids is around and they aren't doing anything identifiable, that spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E. They might not have a plan to rob someone but all it takes is one or two ringleaders and a few manipulable "at risk" youth to turn horseplay and taunts into a full beat-down or robbery attempt. I've seen it happen multiple times.

I call 911 whenever I see a group of kids hanging out who I know aren't going to play sports or are somehow "out of context". I take a head count and identify a couple kids who are dressed differently. At least there is a record of a call and possibly a cop will see them and make a mental note in case something happens later on. In the best possible case, the cop will pull up to the kids and ask them what they're doing.helixhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17725479378282488850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764429864871986236.post-66675578271162837502008-07-21T12:12:00.000-04:002008-07-21T12:12:00.000-04:00Thanks, anonymous!
